Does it Matter if Evolution is True?

The most common statement I hear when people start discussing evolution is something like this: "It doesn't matter - if God used evolution to create the Earth, that's fine. If he didn't that's fine too. It doesn't make a difference to my faith."

Does it not matter either way? For this week's assignment we will look at one reason it may matter a lot.

1. Listen (click on "listen" at the top of the article):

2. Watch:

What about their claim that the genome is absolute proof that Adam and Eve did not exist? Is it true? Well, once again, it depends on your assumptions as you look at the evidence.

4. Please comment below with your thoughts!

P.S. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it to the geology hike! It was really fascinating. I wrote some of my experience here, but it's kind of personal so maybe don't read it if you don't know me because you'll likely misunderstand my intent in sharing my  thoughts :-) Happy learning!

  1. My thoughts are that we did come from Adam and Eve and not from evolution, because with God all things are possible. And we know that his plan was to was to bring about the immortality of man and the only way to do that is (back to all things are possible) to populate the earth, and we KNOW that God sent Adam and Eve to do just that because, without us coming to earth we could NOT become like our Father in Heaven. We couldn't have gotten a body unless we came to here. The proof that we came from Adam and Eve is through revelation from God given to the prophets to share with us.
I know that we did come from Adam and Eve and that it was through God that we are here. I know that we didn't come from evolution and that we came from a Father in Heaven because if you think about it, if we did come from Apes and Monkeys through evolution then wouldn't that mean that we wouldn't have anymore Apes or Monkeys? Because again if you think about it, all of the Apes and Monkeys should be gone because of evolution because we evolved so there shouldn't be ANY Apes or Monkeys left. So those are just my thoughts.

  2. I sometimes feel like the reason people want to disprove God's word is simply so they don't have to be accountable to anyone. If they can scientifically "prove" that there is no God, they can just "eat, drink and be merry," right? That first video REALLY bothered me, and you can tell, even the way she ended the video that she just wants to do whatever.
You can see what happened in the past by looking at the present--like Adam said--why are there still apes if we were supposed to have "originated" from them? Where are the people who are in the middle stages? It doesn't really work...
There is always going to be opposition to the truth--we were sent here to think for ourselves. The Lord wants us to--through faith--through individual experiences with him--develop the knowledge of His truth.
"We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God."
I know that Heavenly Father created us in His own image--I know that the Creation happened the way that it says in the Bible and in the Pearl of Great Price, I just hope that we can all develop faith so we KNOW that what the Lord has said is truly the truth.

  3. It is really interesting what they say. We don't know how God did certain things to make it all come about. We do know that God knows everything and can make things happen and show us how this all came about through creation.
