Creativity is the Connections in Truth

We had a nice discussion about following the world and questioning it's teachings in class Monday (those who are doing this group online and not coming to class - we'd love to hear your thoughts on the comments). We often do things because everyone else does them without stopping to question. This leads to bondage. The study of science could be said to be in bondage right now because many are not willing to question basic assumptions. One thing I like about the UM model is that it helps you question things you thought you knew or things you hadn't even considered questioning.

Here is this week's assignment:
1. Comment on last week's posts if you haven't already (thank-you Adam, Gracious, Miles and Isaiah for your insightful comments!) You can comment on other's comments too if you found something interesting or question something they said.

2. This week's reading: Stumbling Blocks to Creativity. Share your thoughts on this article below.

3. Those of you who own the UM book (I only know of six of you), please come prepared to class to teach us about the following sections or share your teachings online if you will not be coming to class (once you own it and would like to be included in this study, please let me know). If you can relate it to the article on creativity - that's a bonus!

Cassia: Chapter 1 section 1 : Answers to Questions
Isaiah: Chapter 1 section 2 : The Question Principle
Gracious: Chapter 1 section 3: The Learning Process
Jessalyn: Chapter 1 section 4: The Importance of Definitions
William: Chapter 1 section 5: Truth Defined
Miles: Chapter 1 section 6: Scientific and Absolute Truth

Youth Mentors only:

4. Write down your goal for this week in our class blog. Your goal should be something that will help you be more free or come out of bondage in some way. You will find principles that will help you with this in all of your studies - science, English, history, etc. when you are diligently working on accomplishing it. So...

5. On the class blog also write a quote, thought or scripture from any of your studies that has helped you in your efforts to overcome with Christ.

  1. I like how it talks about how Christ has good creativity. Its interesting to think about, we can follow his example in being creative as well as everything else. I disagree with this statement however: "Some would disagree. Some would say there are no absolutes. There is no standard in creativity. But, the very act of creativity presupposes an aim, an ideal to strive for, a potential that has yet to be achieved. Accomplishing your ambitions depends upon your willingness and ability to conform your creativity to the appropriate laws and framework of truth." Because only the Sith deal in absolutes.
I also thought that even though sometimes our creative projects may not look cool at first that we shouldn't give up because it could be beautiful with a little more work. Greatness comes with hard work!

  2. I liked when it talked about how pessimism blocks creativity because it's so true! Sometimes I'm pessimistic and it does stop creativity, you think it's not good enough
or its not as good as someone else's but really if you do the best you can that's good enough.

  3. It was an interesting article. I've always thought of creativity having no rules at all, but just like we need grammar and spelling in order to create writing, I guess there are base rules for every form of creativity.

  4. This was a good article, Jesus Christ is the center of all our creativity all our talents, and through him we can improve our talents and make a difference in our life, someone else life, or in society itself.

  5. Lol, I totally forgot to do this piece of the assignment! ;p Sorry! I really loved this article! I think it's so important to somehow relate everything to the Lord, because He is the creator of all things. He's so perfect, so he has an endless fountain of wisdom and inspiration--we simply need to ask. He knows exactly what we need to do individually here--and since we're trying to become like Him, a piece of our mission will be to create something. I think we need to stay in tune with what He tells us to do so we can be who He wants us to be.

  6. Short and simple but...
We need each cornerstone to not only to become like our Heavenly Father but to obtain eternal happiness.
