Creativity Road Blocks Project and Methods, Models and Pseudotheories

Hi all, since last week was a holiday, we are going to be discussing last week and this week together at our next class. Here are the assignments:

1. Comment on the article from last week if you haven't done so and make a visual representation of what he said. This can be a drawing, an object lesson, 3D art, video - any creative visual you'd like. It can include writing, but it can't be done all in writing. The representation should include the following:
a) The four cornerstones to creativity
b) The four roadblocks to each cornerstone
c) 2 or more consequences to each cornerstone
d) 2 or more consequences for each roadblock
e) method for removing each roadblock

2. If you have the UM book, read chapter 2. If you are coming to class, you just need to read the following section from the UM and come prepared to teach what you learned:

Creativity is the Connections in Truth

We had a nice discussion about following the world and questioning it's teachings in class Monday (those who are doing this group online and not coming to class - we'd love to hear your thoughts on the comments). We often do things because everyone else does them without stopping to question. This leads to bondage. The study of science could be said to be in bondage right now because many are not willing to question basic assumptions. One thing I like about the UM model is that it helps you question things you thought you knew or things you hadn't even considered questioning.

Here is this week's assignment:
1. Comment on last week's posts if you haven't already (thank-you Adam, Gracious, Miles and Isaiah for your insightful comments!) You can comment on other's comments too if you found something interesting or question something they said.

2. This week's reading: Stumbling Blocks to Creativity. Share your thoughts on this article below.

3. Those of you who own the UM book (I only know of six of you), please come prepared to class to teach us about the following sections or share your teachings online if you will not be coming to class (once you own it and would like to be included in this study, please let me know). If you can relate it to the article on creativity - that's a bonus!

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas break! I am excited to start studying with you again.  This week's assignment is short since some of you need a catch up week. I particularly want you to watch last week's video before you move on to the next assignments.  To prepare for next week and the rest of the semester, I am asking everyone to purchase the Universal Model book. I have been studying the Universal Model book over the last month. It has opened my mind to so many things that I had never considered before. This book doesn't just present interesting discoveries about the world, but it helps the reader practice thinking critically - which is something that our world desperately needs. Teachers often attempt to teach this skill, but usually students end up trying to guess what the teacher wants them to critically think. This book does it differently and effectively.

Also, you will never see the world the same again after reading through the book - it becomes more interesting, familiar and full of wonder. I am exited to discuss it with you!

Is Our Freedom Being Taken Through the Medium of Science?

I watched this eye-opening documentary yesterday and I wanted to share it with you. It had been recommended to me more times than I remember, so I am glad I finally got around to watching it. Maybe you can make some time for it during your Thanksgiving break (don't worry, it's not in black and white). Feel free to share your thoughts about it below.

Cherry Picking Data?

Creationists research is sometimes disqualified by evolutionists because they are said to be biased towards certain information - that they cherry pick their data. The aim of science is to be objective as evidence is gathered. Evolutionists refuse to consider catastrophic events that are outlined in the Bible (such as a world-wide flood) because they don't want to introduce religion into their work. Creationists believe that the Bible has important clues to the creation of the world so do not discount it.  This is considered bias. In my opinion, the bias is in not being willing to consider the events - but I digress...

It is dishonest to claim that one doesn't have a bias. Every person has a paradigm with which they view the world. Even when a scientist is trying to be objective, he/she still needs to acknowledge that they have biases they may not be aware of.

Objectivity is best achieved when scientist admit there is bias when they look at and interpret evidence. Scientists are dishonest when they deny this fact.

Is there proof of bias in evolutionary perspective? The following video shares a good case study about how this happens even with well-respected researchers when it comes to guessing the age of a discovery. It also teaches us why various radiometric dating methods seem to confirm each other even though many claim that these dates are not close to accurate.

Outcomes of Faith in Evolution

On Thursday, Vince Newmeyer gave a lecture about how not believing  in God could affect a society. There are certain assumptions about the meaning of life and the worth of individuals that stem from our belief of our origin.

We also learned of the agenda by the National Science Standards leaders to teach only evidence for evolution at early ages so that children come around to that way of thinking even if taught differently in the home.

After watching his lecture and/or the youtube video below, please comment below on the possible outcomes you see for individuals or society when the evolution of man becomes what we believe in.

The following YouTube video does a good job of showing that evolution is a belief system (it is not possible to believe in it without faith in things you cannot see). It also does a good job of showing some of the outcomes of that belief system in the choices we make regarding human life.
